Fourth Annual ATS Foundation Research Program Benefit Celebrates Philanthropy

Tickets are available to the Fourth Annual ATS Foundation Research Program Benefit, which will support and recognize the best and the brightest in pulmonary, critical care, and sleep medicine on Saturday, May 19, during the ATS 2012 International Conference in San Francisco.

A special evening of celebration, fine dining, and dancing, the Fourth Annual ATS Foundation Research Program Benefit will unite key figures and leaders from across the respiratory spectrum, including researchers, clinicians, industry leaders, and patients in support of the Fourth Annual ATS Foundation Research Program.

This year, the format allows attendees more time to mingle, network with colleagues, dance, and sample a wide array of cuisines from San Francisco’s diverse neighborhoods.

“The Benefit promises to be among one of the most important—and fun—social events at the ATS 2012 International Conference,” Foundation Chair James F. Donohue, MD, says. “We look forward to seeing you and to achieving our shared vision of supporting a new generation of researchers in pulmonary, critical care, and sleep medicine.”

The benefit will also honor Talmadge E. King, Jr., MD, the recipient of the 2012 Breathing for Life Award—the highest accolade the Foundation bestows on an individual for philanthropy. Dr. King, an internationally recognized expert on interstitial lung disease, is a past president of the ATS and chair of medicine at the University of California, San Francisco.

Since 2002, the Foundation has awarded nearly $10 million in grants to more than a hundred junior investigators, launching the careers of a new generation of researchers. Past research program grant recipients have gone on to secure $34 million in additional research funding from the National Institutes of Health and other organizations, publish their work in prestigious national and international journals, and mentor the next generation of researchers.
