ATS Ratifies Three New Chapters

April 4, 2017 at 1:48 pm

On Feb. 21, the board ratified the formation of three new chapters: Georgia Thoracic Society, North Carolina Thoracic Society, and South Carolina Thoracic Society.

“We are excited to have the three new chapters join the 17 existing chapters to extend the reach of the ATS,” said Stephen Kantrow, MD, chair of the Council of Chapter Representatives. “Local thoracic societies promote productive relationships between academic centers and colleagues in practice and deliver the enormous strengths of the ATS to settings outside of the annual conference. Continued growth of local thoracic chapters positions the ATS to use its rich scientific resources to support clinical excellence throughout the country.”

Thoracic society chapters offer a wealth of networking and leadership opportunities at the local level. Combined, they hold about 40 meetings and activities throughout the year, and most meetings have been designated for CME. At the Annual International Conference, the ATS Council of Chapter Representatives is responsible for organizing the Outstanding Clinician Award and Great Cases Symposium. Additionally, chapter members are a major voice for pulmonary, sleep, and critical care providers in national and local advocacy, like the recent Annual Hill Day.

Membership in chapters is encouraged but not mandatory for participation in meetings and activities.
