Latin American MECORIn early November, the ATS and Asociacion Latinoamericana del Torax (ALAT) jointly sponsored the 17th annual Methods in Epidemiology, Clinical and Operations Research (MECOR) course in Guayaquil, Ecuador.

This year, the program, which began in 1994 as the International Respiratory Epidemiology course, drew approximately 80 attendees from Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Columbia, Ecuador, Peru and Spain. This year, all of the course levels were led by faculty from Latin America.

Students in the level-one course were introduced to clinical research methods, while those in the more advanced level-two course learned how to design a study and plan a research project. Those who enrolled in the third- and fourth-level courses on advanced and applied clinical research methods brought data to the meeting and learned how to analyze it and use it to write a research paper.
