Diamond Anniversary of the Golden Gate
The Golden Gate Bridge linking San Francisco and Marin County will turn 75 years old on May 27, 2012. For ATS International Conference attendees enjoying an extended stay in San Francisco, a two-day festival is planned for May 26 and 27, recalling the "Golden Gate Bridge Fiesta" held at the bridge’s opening in 1937.
Leading up to and following this celebration, a number of civic, cultural and educational organizations will produce their own tributes to the iconic bridge.
On any day, visitors to the bridge can take in the spectacular setting on a scenic drive, a leisurely walk or a bike ride across the 1.2 mile span. They can also enjoy refreshments at the Bridge Café and pick up souvenirs, books and photos at the Gift Center. The Fort Point Overlook on the San Francisco (south) side of the bridge offers panoramic views of San Francisco Bay. The south side of the bridge also features newly renovated gardens, containing nearly five acres of annual and perennial flowers, manicured hedges and brick paths, allowing visitors to take in the bridge from a unique angle.
