National & International Media Outlets Cover ATS, Journals

ATS in the newsIn the last several months, the ATS has been featured in a number of stories published by national and international media outlets. In the aftermath of President Obama rejecting the Environmental Protection Agency’s proposal for tightening smog standards, the New York Times published an article in November 2011 quoting ATS President-Elect Monica Kraft, MD, who noted the adverse health consequences the administration’s decision would have, particularly on children. Later in the month, Medscape published an article on risk factors for opioid-induced excessive respiratory depression, citing research published in the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine. A number of other publications wrote stories on research published in another recent issue of the AJRCCM that concluded vitamin D doesn’t prevent COPD exacerbations. And the advocacy Web site www.TheHill.com published a story quoting ATS member Tee Guidotti, MD, who said that the United States lags behind other countries in limiting exposure to the carcinogen crystalline silica.
