ATS Foundation Trust Distribution

Oscar Friedman, MD, a longtime ATS member who died on April 19, 2011, at the age of 99, has made the ATS the beneficiary of a trust that provides $150,000 in support of the Ziskind Clinical Training Memorial Fund.

Established in 2003 in honor of Dr. Morton Ziskind, a master clinician and educator at Tulane University, the fund supports programs and projects that advance the careers of young clinicians in pulmonary medicine. Dr. Friedman completed his undergraduate work at Columbia University and earned his medical degree from Baylor University College of Medicine in 1936. An ATS member since 1957, Dr. Friedman also served as professor of medicine at Mount Sinai until his retirement in 1988.

“This gift will have a profound and lasting impact on the ATS’s research, clinical education, and training programs,” said James F. Donohue, MD, chair of the Foundation. “The Society is grateful to Dr. Friedman for his commitment to the future of the ATS, as exemplified by this very generous bequest.”
