ATS Fellowship in Health Equality: Call for Applications

The ATS is pleased to announce that it is now accepting applications for the 2018 ATS Fellowship in Health Equality. This fellowship is designed to support the efforts of senior fellows, junior faculty, or post-doctoral students with research, clinical, and policy endeavors to advance health equality for patients with respiratory disease, critical care illness or injury, and sleep disordered breathing. To facilitate the advancement of health equality, the ATS will provide financial support as a fellowship to a successful candidate.

The ATS Fellowship in Health Equality will provide up to $25,000 to support the efforts of the successful candidate from July 1, 2018 through June 30, 2019. Applications are due by Thursday, April 12, 2018. Learn more.

Urgent Changes Needed to End Tuberculosis: World TB Day March 24

On World TB Day, the Forum of International Respiratory Societies (FIRS), of which ATS is a founding member, calls on the United Nations General Assembly to commit to the urgent changes needed to end tuberculosis, in its first High Level Meeting on TB.

FIRS urges governments to ensure that their national response to TB is adequately funded and that national plans are implemented. In particular, we call on governments to support significant investment to improve TB prevention, and diagnostic and treatment options so that the global TB epidemic will be eliminated by the End TB deadline in 2030. Staff Raises $20k to Fight Lung Disease

ATS staff members contributed $20,025 to the Foundation during the 2018 Staff Giving Campaign. Each year, ATS staff come together to contribute $20,000 or more to the ATS Foundation during the annual Staff Giving Campaign. Their gifts support the Research Program, Medical Education Research, ATS Methods in Epidemiology, Clinical and Operations Research (MECOR), the Ziskind Award, the Mellins Award, and Assembly Awards & Scholarships. Opening for FIRS Communications Officer

The Forum of International Respiratory Societies , of which ATS is a founding member, is currently seeking to hire a full-time communications officer. This position will carry out all FIRS communications activities. He/she will work closely with the executive director, webmaster, and communications teams from each member organization, as well as those from partnering organizations. Related responsibilities include promoting FIRS as an organization, as well as its major policy initiatives (such as World Lung Day), and coordinating communications and its member organizations’ activities.
