ATS Compliance with GDPR

Effective May 25, 2018 the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) goes into effect. This represents a comprehensive overhaul and strengthening of the Union’s existing privacy regulations. The new regulations require organizations such as the ATS to establish stringent processes for the collection, use, transfer, and storage of personal data. The ATS intends to fully comply with these regulations and will seek to apply them to data collected from all individuals who interact with the Society, not just those living in the EU, because this transparency is in the best interests of all parties.

In the coming weeks, we will be in contact with our members and others who interact with the Society to confirm that our use of personal data conforms with their wishes as we pursue our mission of helping the world breathe.  In the meantime, you can review our updated privacy policy here.

Well-being Collaborative Kicks Off

We help the world breathe … but do we ever stop to take a breath? Stress and burnout, a work-related set of symptoms including exhaustion and feelings of reduced personal accomplishment, affect high numbers of health care workers in critical care, pulmonary, and sleep medicine. In the initial stages of burnout, individuals feel emotional stress and increasing job-related disillusionment. Over time, burnout can pose a threat to health care quality and safety.

Join the battle against burnout at ATS 2018, with sessions addressing burnout reduction. In addition to a number of sessions exploring related topics, there will be an interactive booth in the Exhibit Hall (#904) where you can explore ways to improve the professional environment, get a chair massage or visit with therapy dogs. And on May 22, we’ll host a kick-off meeting for the ATS Wellbeing Collaborative, a new ATS interest group working to protect and improve the wellbeing of physicians, scientists, and health care providers.
