New! ATS Treasurer Position

Currently, the ATS is seeking nominations for candidates to be elected to the ATS Executive Committee as Treasurer for 2022-2025. The position of Treasurer is critical for the ATS, as this individual will spend three years providing guidance, oversight and reporting of the Society’s finances. It is important that ATS identifies nominees who are outstanding members to ensure the Society continues to accelerate global innovation in the advancement of respiratory health through multidisciplinary collaboration, education, and advocacy.

We ask that you carefully consider the qualifications and submit nominations of colleagues who demonstrate leadership characteristics for this position. Self-nominations are also accepted. Read more and nominate today.

This change is part of the ATS commitment to growth and improvement. Read more about the governance task force recommendations, and see the notification of proposed changes to the Bylaws.

ATS and CHEST Re-Survey of Hospital Inpatient/Observations Care Services

In November, the ATS and CHEST are participating in the AMA RUC process to re-survey two large categories of CPT services important to our membership. The categories are:

  • Hospital Inpatient-Observation-Admission and Discharge CPT codes 99221-99223, 99231-99239, and
  • Hospital Inpatient Consultation Visits 99252-99255.

These codes have substantial revisions proposed for implementation in the calendar year 2023. The ATS and CHEST have sent survey requests to randomly selected members. If you receive a survey from ATS or CHEST and you provide these services or are familiar with these services, it is essential that you participate in any and all of the re-surveys that you receive via email. The survey results assist our member advisors in recommending the relative values to the AMA RUC and in the end to Medicare.

Many of you may have responded to a similar survey of these codes in June of 2021. Unfortunately, there are issues with the June survey instrument that led to problems with the survey data. ATS and CHEST are re-surveying these codes with updated survey instruments. Please respond to the re-survey effort, even if you responded in June.

Patient Voices 10: Now Available!

ATS Patient Voices 10 is now available! This year, the stories look at the role of caregivers and the caregiving ecosystem in the journey of patients. The stories illustrate a variety of different relationships, illustrating how critical caregiving is in its many forms.

ATS Patient Voices is published by the American Thoracic Society Public Advisory Roundtable (ATS PAR). Since 2001, ATS PAR has been a core component of the Society and a mutually beneficial partnership wherein organizations that represent persons affected by respiratory diseases, illnesses requiring critical care, and sleep-related disorders collaborate with the ATS to advance their shared educational, research, patient care, and advocacy goals.
