FDA Center for Tobacco Products Celebrates 5th Anniversary

July 2014

This week, the Food and Drug Administration's Center for Tobacco Products (CTP) celebrated its fifth anniversary since its creation under the Family Smoking and Tobacco Prevention Act in 2009, which gave the FDA the authority to oversee the manufacturing, marketing, distribution, and sale of regulated tobacco products. At a celebratory event at CTP's headquarters in Silver Spring, MD, FDA Commissioner Margaret Hamburg and CTP Director Mitchell Zeller highlighted the CTP's work setting a comprehensive framework for tobacco regulation. Dr. Hamburg congratulated Director Zeller and all of the CTP staff for their "groundbreaking work to protect Americans from the deadly impacts of tobacco use, particularly children."
