House Leadership Appoints New Appropriations Panel Chairs

This week, the House leadership appointed new chairs of key panels that determine House funding allocations for health and environment program funding. Rep. Tom Cole (R-OK) has been selected as the new chair of the Labor-Health and Human Services Appropriations subcommittee, which determines funding for health research and services programs, including NIH and CDC. Rep. Ken Calvert (R-CA) was selected to chair the Interior and Environment subcommittee, which provides funding for the EPA, and Rep. Charlie Dent (R-PA) is the new chair of the Veterans Affairs/ Military Construction subcommittee. All three of these new subcommittee chairs have been described as moderate Conservatives.
