ATS Participates in White House Summit on Climate Change and Health

June 2015

This week, ATS Immediate Past-President Tom Ferkol, M.D. participated in the first-ever White House Summit on Climate Change and Health. The summit brought together health professional association and public health leaders to strategize on ways to raise awareness of the effects of climate change on human health. It featured remarks by Surgeon General Vivek Murthy, M.D., EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy, and a video message from President Obama. "Climate change has the potential to exacerbate health disparities – it will worsen health overall, but in particular, will worsen health disparities," Surgeon General Murthy said. "For these reasons, climate change is a moral issue."
