Senate Panel Approves TB Research Support

There may be a new source of grant funding for TB research in 2016. This week, the Senate Appropriations Committee approved the FY2016 Defense Appropriations bill, which includes funding and policy for the DOD's Congressional Directed Medical Research Program (CDMRP). The 2016 spending bill approved by the Committee includes TB as a disease eligible for research grant funding. Although the measure is not included in the House's version of the bill, its inclusion in the Senate bill is a strong indicator that it will be included in the final 2016 Defense spending bill. The 2016 DOD spending is subject to final congressional resolution of all 2016 spending bills later this year.
