House and Senate Provide Increase in VA Research Funding

April 2016

Last week, both the House and Senate took action to provide funding increases for the VA research program.  The House Appropriations committee voted on the fiscal year 2017 Military Construction and VA appropriations bill that provided $663.4 million (+$32.7 million) for the VA research program.  The House bill also included language encouraging the VA to invest more research in respiratory illness research for veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars.  The House bill will next go to the full House for consideration.

In parallel action, the Senate Military Construction and VA Appropriations Subcommittee provided $675 million (+$44.3 million) for the VA research program.  The Senate bill will next go to the full Appropriations Committee for consideration.

The ATS will continue to advocate for increased funding for the VA research program.
