ATS Members Oppose EPA Plans to Disband the CASAC Advisory Committee

Last week, several ATS members spoke at the recent EPA Clean Air Scientific Advisory Committee (CASAC) meeting in opposition to Acting EPA Administrator Andrew Wheeler’s proposal to disband the advisory committee that conducts pollutant-specific reviews of pollutants regulated under the Clean Air Act.  Several ATS members, include former CASAC Chair Jonathan Samet, MD, and Vice-chair of the ATS Environmental Health Policy Committee Kevin Cromar, PhD, noted that the proposal was a significant deviation from established EPA process across both Republican and Democratic Administrations and would deny the CASAC the advice of recognized experts in respiratory health and toxicology.
