AnnalsATS Update
The Annals of the American Thoracic Society, known as AnnalsATS, was relaunched in its current form in 2013. Dedicated to rigorous epidemiological, clinical, and health services research, the journal has made some updates designed to keep it at the forefront of respiratory, sleep, and critical care medicine and population health.
Because of the journal’s commitment to quality research, the submission requirements have been streamlined to make it easy for researchers to submit their work. Specifically:
- There are no longer manuscript formatting requirements for initial research manuscript submissions.
- The manuscript submission page has been redesigned to make the submission process faster and simpler.
In another exciting shift, the journal has increased the space dedicated to clinician education and public awareness. AnnalsATS publishes commentary on matters of public health, including news about the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and occupational exposure issues, typically at the rate of one article per issue.
A particularly unique new section, Innovation and Provocation, aims to bring cutting-edge, and even controversial, topics to the attention of the journal’s readers. The section is intended to be thought provoking and to present ideas that clinicians and researchers may not have considered. To date, this section has covered topics such as methods for research in discontinuity regression and a narrative addressing burnout, which is among the journal’s most-read articles.
AnnalsATS is committed to serving its readership and will continue to evolve to reflect the needs of the clinical and research communities. It received its first Impact Factor (IF) in October 2018, with a ranking of 4.006.
