“I just remember thinking, ‘I really don’t care.’“
“I actually stopped believing I was smart.”
“Looking back, I think I would have sought help earlier.“
So say just some of the ATS members who participated in the new ATS “Voices of Burnout” podcast series, launching soon. Stress and burnout affect high numbers of health care workers in critical care, pulmonary, and sleep medicine, and take a toll both professionally and personally. As a first step toward destigmatizing burnout and creating an open discussion about these issues, the ATS has created a podcast series in which individuals in all stages of their careers discuss their experiences with burnout, and how they coped with it.
The podcast will offer members an opportunity to hear first-hand accounts of the signs and symptoms of burnout so that they can more easily identify them among their colleagues, or in themselves.
Listen and subscribe to Voices of Burnout, and all the ATS podcasts, on iTunes, Google play or wherever you get your podcasts. You can also share your experience with burnout and find resources to help on the ATS website.
