New Health of the Air Report Released as EPA Considers Revising Federal Air Quality Standards

A paper published online in the Annals of the American Thoracic Society presents research discussing how new air quality standards recommended by the American Thoracic Society have the potential to prevent more illness and death than standards adopted by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).  This study is part of the annual ATS/Marron Institute Health of the Air report.

In “Excess Morbidity and Mortality Associated with Air Pollution above American Thoracic Society Recommended Standards, 2017-2019,” Kevin R. Cromar, PhD, program director at the Marron Institute of Urban Management, and colleagues from the ATS Environmental Health Policy Committee reviewed the most current scientific evidence on air quality and revised their recommendations to provide more protective standards for long- and short-term fine particulate (PM2.5).  Read more!
