‘Tis the Season of Giving

You care about patients. You care about our profession. And you care about research -- because you know that’s vital to both.

Unfortunately, our profession’s ability to develop new treatments is increasingly threatened.

Research funding has dwindled. Between 2003 and 2020, the National Institutes of Health budget shrank more than 20 percent, resulting in 3,100 fewer grants each year.

Then, the pandemic arrived.

COVID-19 profoundly disrupted respiratory research. With personnel diverted, labs and clinics closed, and funding channeled elsewhere, young scientists are challenged to obtain grants and sustain their research. Discouraged, some scientists are leaving the field or not entering at all.

ATS is determined to ramp up support for emerging young scientists. We will help hone their talents. We will fund their early studies. We will help them win major grants. We will celebrate their breakthroughs.

“We,” of course are … you.
