The ATS partnered with the American College of Radiology, Society of Thoracic Surgeons, Cancer Action Network and Lung Cancer Alliance and over 30 other organizations in a letter to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services outlining our position on how to structure a Medicare lung cancer screening benefit. The letter touches on several important aspects of a national coverage policy for lung cancer screening including the appropriate patient population, quality controls, reporting systems, screening reporting systems and management of patients with a positive lung cancer screening finding.
CMS is expected to release a proposed decision memo regarding lung cancer screening in November. The ATS will continue to monitor CMS's coverage process of lung cancer screening.
