Philip LoBue Named as New Director of CDC Division of TB Elimination

Last week, Jono Mermin, M.D., Director of CDC's National Center for HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis, STD's and TB Prevention, announced that Philip LoBue, M.D., has been named as the new Director of the Division of TB Elimination (DTBE). Dr. LoBue has served as the division's acting director since former director Kenneth Castro's departure last year.

Prior to becoming acting director, Dr. LoBue served as Associate Director for Science for the DTBE since 2006. He began with CDC in 1999 as a Field Medical Officer and Epidemiologist with the San Diego County TB Control Program and in 2004 transferred to Atlanta to become Chief of the Medical Consultation Team of DTBE. Dr. LoBue is a recipient of CDC's Award for Excellence in Surveillance and Health Monitoring and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration's Award for Outstanding Service. Dr. LoBue is a member of the ATS and has served on several ATS committees.
