Bill Introduced to Raise Tobacco Purchase Age to 21

October 2015

Senate legislation was recently introduced to raise the purchase age for all tobacco products to 21.  The bill, S. 2100, introduced by Senators Brian Schatz (D-HI), Dick Durbin (D-IL), and Sherrod Brown (D-OH), would prohibit the sale of any tobacco product to people under the age of 21.  Parallel legislation has been introduced in the House of Representatives.  The legislation is intended to apply to all tobacco products.

While several other states are considering state legislation to raise to purchase age of tobacco to 21, Hawaii is the only state to have adopted the policy so far.
