Congressional Briefing Showcases Advances by Children’s Environmental Health Centers

October 2015

This week, the ATS, as chair of the Friends of the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS), co-coordinated a briefing with the NIEHS and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to educate congressional staff on Capitol Hill about environmental influences on child health and development. The briefing featured speakers from children's environmental health centers at Columbia University, the University of Southern California and University of California at Berkeley and NIEHS Director Linda Birnbaum, Ph.D. and EPA Deputy Assistant Administrator Thomas Burke, Ph.D. Research findings from the centers on the health effects of prenatal and early childhood exposures to chemicals and air pollution, including childhood leukemia and asthma, were presented at the event.
