House Appropriations Committee Includes Tobacco Riders in Agriculture Appropriations Bill

June 2015

The House Agriculture Appropriations Subcommittee included language in the fiscal year 2016 Agriculture Appropriations bill – which funds the Food and Drug Administration  – that would undermine the ability of FDA to regulate e-cigarettes and other new tobacco products.  The provision would effectively grandfather all new tobacco or nicotine products that have been introduced into the U.S. market since 2007 – effectively shielding e-cigarettes and many candy-flavored cigars from FDA regulatory authority.

The ATS strongly opposes the provision and urges Congress to strip the tobacco provision from the bill as it move through the Congressional process.
