House Cuts EPA Funding/Blocks EPA Rules

July 2016

On Thursday, the House of Representatives passed the FY17 Interior and Environment Appropriations bill that funds EPA and federal agencies.  The bill significantly cuts EPA's research and implementation funding, undermining EPA's ability to protect the environment.

The bill also includes a number of legislative riders that block EPA from implementing several air pollution regulations, including a provision to block EPA from implementing a more protective standard. The bill also blocks EPA from moving forward with limits on carbon emissions from power plants and would also block EPA's rule to reduce methane emission from new and expanded oil and gas extraction operations.

The White House has issued a veto threat on the House bill and specifically sited their concerns with environmental legislative riders.
