House Subcommittee Passes Legislation to Ban Smoking at all VA Facilities

April 2017

This week, the House Veterans Affairs Health Subcommittee passed, by unanimous consent, legislation to ban smoking, including e-cigarettes, at all VA facilities. The bill, H.R. 1662, introduced by Rep. Wenstrup (R-OH-2) bans smoking indoors at VA facilities 90 days after enactment of the legislation. The bill further bans smoking outdoors at VA facilities by October 1, 2022.

The ATS joined the American Lung Association, American Heart Association, American Cancer Society and the Campaign for Tobacco Free Kids in a joint letter expressing support for the legislation.

The bill will now go to the full House Veterans Affairs Committee for consideration.
