New CDC Director Named

The Department of Health and Human Services recently announced that Brenda Fitzgerald, MD, has been named as the new director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Dr. Fitzgerald, an obstetrician-gynecologist, has been commissioner of the Georgia Department of Public Health since 2011. Earlier in her career, she worked for former House Speaker Newt Gingrich and Senator Paul Coverdell (R-GA) and twice ran for a Georgia congressional seat. Dr. Fitzgerald has publicly stated her support for vaccinations.
