ATS Joins Letter Opposing Riders to Limit FDA’s Authority to Regulate Tobacco Products

In related action, the ATS joined a letter signed by over 50 physician and public health organizations urging Congress to reject any legislative amendments that would weaken or delay the FDA’s authority to regulate all tobacco products.  Earlier this year, the House of Representatives passed the FY19 FDA/Agriculture appropriations bill with provisions that would exempt “premium” cigars from FDA regulation and make it easier for other tobacco products currently on the market, including e-cigarettes and candy flavored cigars, to avoid FDA regulation.  The Senate version of the bill is free of the tobacco riders.
