This week, the ATS submitted written testimony to the House Labor, Health, and Human Services subcommittee of the Appropriations Committee, chaired by Rep. Cole (R-OK), urging the subcommittee to provide increased funding for NIH and CDC public health programs in fiscal year 2019.
The statement urges the subcommittee to provide $75 million in funding for the implementation of the COPD National Action Plan through the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute, and the CDC. The funding would support increased basic and clinical research into diagnostics, treatment and prevention of COPD, as well as expanded surveillance and increased public awareness of the disease. The ATS also urged the subcommittee to provide increased funding for CDC’s asthma, tuberculosis, tobacco control, and occupational safety and health programs. The ATS will submit similar testimony to the Senate Labor, Health and Human Services subcommittee within the next few months.
