House Passes Legislation to Delay Clean Air Act Rules

This week, the House of Representative passed two measures to roll back the EPA rules to reduce air pollution.  The first bill (H.R. 1119), called the SENSE Act by its supporters, would relax the EPA emissions standard on power plants that burn waste coal and coal by-products.  The bill passed the House along largely partisan lines.

The second bill was a two for one effort, in that a single bill rolled back both the EPA’s emission standards for brick kilns and its emission standards for wood burning heaters and stoves.

Both bills were opposed by the ATS.  Both bills passed the House of Representatives along largely partisan lines.  The bills will now be considered by the Senate, where to date there has been less support for these measures.
