ATS Comments on Roll Back of EPA Rule to Limit Methane Emissions from Oil & Natural Gas Extraction

This week, the ATS submitted regulatory comments opposing EPA’s proposal to roll back Obama-era EPA rules to regulate and reduce the amount of methane and other fugitive emissions from oil and natural gas extraction processes. The comments urged the agency to maintain the existing EPA regulations on methane, and the ATS noted that methane and other fugitive emissions have direct adverse health effects and that methane is a powerful greenhouse gas pollutant. The EPA decision to roll back the methane rules is unusual in that the roll back is opposed by health, environment, and even many major petroleum companies.
