CDC Issues Updated Numbers on E-cigarette-Vaping Associated Lung Injury (EVALI)

On Thursday, the Centers for Disease Control issued updated national numbers on EVALI cases.  As of Oct. 15, there have been 1479 confirmed or suspected cases of EVALI reported in 49 states, the District of Columbia and U.S. territories, while 33 EVALI deaths have been reported in 24 states.

Additionally, the CDC has issued guidance to clinicians on the correct ICD-10-CM codes to use for reporting acute EVALI cases.  The CDC coding guidance can be found at: https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/data/icd/Vapingcodingguidance2019_10_17_2019.pdf
