Preliminary NYTS Shows Increase in High School E-cigarette Use

The Administration has released preliminary data from the 2019 National Youth Tobacco Survey that shows continued increase in the use of nicotine products among high school-aged youth. The preliminary data shows that in 2019, 27.5 percent of high school aged-youth reported using an e-cigarette or vape product in the previous 30 days. This is an increase from 2018 when 20.8 percent of high school youth reported use in the previous 30-days. The preliminary data also showed that youth use of mint and menthol flavored e-cigarette and vape products nearly equalled fruit-flavored products.

The CDC is expected to publish its comprehensive National Youth Tobacco Survey report in a forthcoming issue of MMWR.
