Senate Approves New FDA Commissioner

In related news, this week, the Senate confirmed new FDA Commissioner Stephen Hahn, MD, by a vote of 72 – 18. Dr. Hahn, an oncologist, was previously chief medical executive of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. Hahn earned the rank of Commander in the US Public Health Service Commissioned Corps while working at the National Cancer Institute from 1989–1995. At his confirmation hearing with the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee in November, Hahn demurred on whether the FDA should regulate all tobacco products, including flavored e-cigarettes.
