ATS Files Amicus Brief in Court Challenge to EPA GHG Rule

The ATS was joined by several other medical societies in filing an amicus brief in the case American Lung Association v EPA, challenging the EPA’s rule to reduce carbon emissions from U.S. power plants. The rule, known as Affordable Clean Energy, when fully implemented would result in national carbon emissions reductions of 0.7 to 1.5 percent by 2030. While achieving trivial reductions in greenhouse gases, the rule would also allow some individual power plants to increase overall emissions of carbon emissions and co-pollutants like particulate matter and ozone precursors. The amicus brief shared with the court known and suspected adverse health effects caused by carbon emissions and the co-pollutants emitted from U.S. power plants.
