ATS Joins Letter to EPA Urging More Protective Ozone Standard
This week, the ATS joined several other medical and public health organizations in a letter to the EPA urging the Administration to adopt a more protective National Ambient Air Quality Standard of 60 ppb and opposing the EPA’s decision to retain the current standard of 70 ppb. The joint letter makes a case that the current standard is not protective of the public health. The ATS has made this point in previous written comments, public testimony and direct communication with EPA staff. Several studies, including chamber studies and epidemiological studies, have demonstrated serious adverse health effects at exposures to ozone below 70 ppb. For over a decade, ATS has urged the EPA to adopt a more protective standard of 60 ppb.
