This week, the ATS joined the American College of Chest Physicians, the Society for Critical Care Medicine, and the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses in releasing a public statement calling for urgent development and implementation strategy to respond to COVID-19. The public letter was shared with Trump Administration officials, President-elect Biden’s transition team staff, state governors and senior congressional leadership. It outlined the steps that need to be taken to provide access to personal protective equipment for health care workers, to provide essential medical supplies to treat patients with COVID-19, and to ensure commitment to implementing effective COVID-19 public health measures like mask use, social distancing and hand washing.
