ATS Supports Research Infrastructure Funding Effort

This week, ATS joined a letter led by the Ad-Hoc Group for Medical Research, a national coalition of over 330 patient, medical and academic organizations supporting medical research, to Congress urging the inclusion of $15.5 billion in emergency funding for the NIH in the final COVID relief package currently being negotiated between Congress and the White House.

In the letter, the Ad-Hoc Group writes that, “Support is needed to resume pre-pandemic research that was suspended due to lab closures and to address emerging challenges as labs reopen.” The letter points out that these expenses will increase as research resumes and that without additional funding, progress on cures, treatment and prevention for other diseases will be delayed.  The letter also highlights the significant role of NIH-funded biomedical research to the nation’s economic health.
