ATS Urges CMS to Waive Budget Neutrality in EM Payments

This week, the ATS and several other medical societies, in a letter led by the American Medical Association, urged CMS to move forward with payment updates in 2021 for evaluation and management service and to waive budget neutrality requirements for these payments.  Due to the many disruptions caused by COVID-19 to the health industry, if applied budget neutrality would lead to unusually large payment reductions for Medicare providers.  The letter notes that CMS has ample administrative authority to waive application of the budget neutrality requirement.
