Court Extends FDA Tobacco Application Deadlines to Sept. 9, 2020

In response to a petition submitted by the FDA, a federal court has granted the Agency and the tobacco industry a four-month extension of the deadline to submit new tobacco product applications to the Agency for review. The court had originally set a deadline of May 12, 2020, but at the request of the FDA, the deadline has been extended to Sept. 9, 2020. In requesting the delay, the FDA noted the COVID-19 related challenges, saying the Agency is "seeking the extension solely because of the coronavirus outbreak and would not do so but for these highly unusual circumstances."
