Peer Societies Join ATS In Call for Further Congressional Action on COVID-19

The ATS was joined by five medical societies, all representing professionals on the frontlines of the COVID-19 response, in urging Congress to take further steps to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic. The letter asked Congress to take several steps including:

  • Ensuring appropriate supply and distribution of PPE, ventilators and COVID-19 test kits.
  • Providing economic relief for frontline providers.
  • Expanding liability protection for providers responding to the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Expanding use of advance directives.

Congressional leaders have publicly stated the need for Congress to pass additional legislation in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. While the scope and timing of any further legislation is unclear, the ATS will continue to urge Congress to provide our members with the tools and resources they need to effectively respond to the COVID-19 pandemic.
