ATS Joins Letter in Support of Additional Visas for Researchers
The American Thoracic Society joined other organizations in a sign-on letter to Rep. Jerrold Nadler and Rep. Zoe Lofgren requesting the creation of additional employment-based visas specifically for international students who earn, or previously earned, advanced STEM degrees to be immediately eligible for an employment-based green card upon graduation and to be exempt from any per-country cap.
More than 30 signatories urged Congress to develop legislation in response to the fiscal year 2022 budget resolution and reconciliation instructions aimed at improving the country’s ability to attract and retain international STEM talent, which is essential for the U.S. to maintain global leadership in science, technology, and innovation.
