ATS Testifies in Support of EPA Regulation of Methane Gas Emissions
In related news, ATS Environmental Health Policy Committee member Franziska Rosser MD, MPH testified on behalf of the ATS in support of EPA’s proposed rule to reduce methane gas emissions from oil and natural gas extraction and refinement operations. In her comments, Dr. Rosser noted reducing methane gas emissions was essential component of the US efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, supported EPAs proposal to regulate new and existing oil and natural gas sources, urged the agency to require continuous monitoring of methane emissions and urged the Biden Administration to issue future rules to address methane emissions from abandoned wells. Dr. Rosser also note that small oil and natural gas operations emit a dispropornate share of fugitive methane emissions and that is essential to ensure smaller operations were covered in the methane emissions regulations.
