ATS Urges Congress to Provide Steady Funding for Federal Research Programs
The American Thoracic Society joined a letter led by Research!America to Congressional leadership urging swift enactment of funding legislation to support federal research programs like NIH, CDC, NASA, and NSF. The letter was sent to key Congressional leaders, including Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, and House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy urging action to complete the FY22 appropriations process as soon as possible. The letter calls for avoiding another continuing resolution (CR) before the current CR expires Dec. 3, 2021, and describes the negative impact that continuing resolutions have on scientific progress and federal research and development agencies.
