Biden Administration Issues GHG Reduction Pledge
In a meeting with world leaders, President Biden pledged to reduce U.S. economy-wide greenhouse gas emission by 50 from 2005 baseline levels by 2030. The pledge was made during a virtual international climate summited hosted by the U.S. The U.S. pledge was well received by most world leaders and climate advocates but received a less than enthusiastic reception from many Republican leaders in Congress. The Administration has released broad details of a proposed infrastructure plan that addresses reducing GHG emissions. Key features on the plan include de-carbonizing the U.S. electric power sector, electrification of vehicles and capping leaking and abandoned oil and natural gas wells, which are major sources of methane gas emissions.
