Biden Administration Issues New Policy On Clean Cars
This week, the Administration announced a series of policies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from U.S. vehicles. The Administration, with auto manufacturers and labor unions, announced its goal that by 2030, fifty percent of all new passenger vehicles purchases in the U.S. would be electric, hydrogen cell or other zero emission technology. The Administration further announced new fuel economy standard and tailpipe emissions standards for cars and light trucks for model years 2023-2036, and established a timetable for future revisions to fuel economy and tailpipe emissions standards. In making these announcements, the Administration is taking its first concrete administration action to reduce U.S. greenhouse gas emissions. The policies announced by President Biden use regulatory authority and do not require Congressional approval.
