Last week, the Biden Administration released its proposed budget for fiscal year 2022. The proposed budget includes increases in a number of programs of interest to ATS members, including:
- National Institutes of Health - $51.95 billion in total funding for NIH, a requested increase of $9.03 billion over FY21, which includes $6.5 million for the new Advanced Research Project Agency for Health (ARPA-H) within NIH.

- $6.73 billion for the National Cancer Institute, an increase of $174 million over FY21.
- $3.85 billion for the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, an increase of $181 million over FY21.
- $6.25 billion for the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, an increase of $179 million over FY21.
- $3.1 billion for the National Institute of General Medical Sciences, an increase of $105 million over FY21.
- $1.94 billion for the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, an increase of $104 million over FY21.
- $937 million for the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, an increase of $122 million over FY21, plus $84 million in additional NIEHS funding through the Inter-Environment appropriation, an increase of $2 million over FY21.
- $200 million for the National Institute of Nursing Research , an increase of $25 million over FY21.
- $652 million for the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities, an increase of $261 million over FY21.
- $96 million for the Fogarty International Center, an increase of $12 million over FY21.
- $2.25 billion for the Office of the Director, an increase of $70 million over FY21.
- $6.5 billion for the new Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health or ARPA-H, an increase of $6.5 billion over FY21.

- Centers for Disease Control and Prevention - $15.41 billion in total funding for CDC, a requested increase of $1.44 billion over FY21.

- $946 million for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases, an increase of $125 million over FY21.
- $1.42 billion for HIV/AIDS, Viral Hepatitis, Sexually Transmitted Infection, Tuberculosis Prevention, an increase of $107 million over FY21. - $135.03 million for Tuberculosis, level-funded from FY21.
- $1.45 billion for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion, an increase of $176 million over FY21.
- $109.4 million for Tobacco along with $128.1 million for Tobacco from the Prevention and Public Health Fund, level-funded from FY21. - $153 million for Social Determinants of Health, an increase of $150 million over FY21. - $1.5 million for Chronic Disease Education and Awareness, level-funded from FY21.
- $333 million for Environmental Health, an increase of $110 million over FY21.
- $110 million for Climate and Health, an increase of $100 million from FY21. - $30 million for Asthma, level-funded from FY21. - $1.1 billion for Injury Prevention and Control, an increase of $420 million over FY21.
- $742 million for Public Health and Scientific Services, an increase of $150 million over FY21.
- $345 million for Occupational Safety and Health, level-funded from FY21.
- $1.2 million for the National Mesothelioma Registry and Tissue Bank, level-funded from FY21.
- $698 million for Global Health, an increase of $105 million over FY21.
- $9.22 million for Global Tuberculosis, level-funded from FY21. - $842 million for Public Health Preparedness and Response, level-funded from FY21.
- $82 million for the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry, an increase of $4 million over FY21.

- $30.25 million for Indoor Air and Radiation within the EPA Environmental Programs & Management budget, an increase of $5.3 million over FY21.

- VA Research -$882 million for the VA Medical and Prosthetic Research Program, an increase of $87 million over FY21.

The release of the President’s proposed budget is just the first step in a long process between Congress and the White House in developing the annual federal budget.
