Congress Approves Short-Term Funding Measure

Late Thursday, December 2, the House and Senate approved a stop gap funding measure for the federal government. The legislation ensures all federal programs, including NIH, CDC, Medicare and other essential research and public health functions, will continue operations through February 18, 2022. President Biden is expected to sign the short-term funding bill.

Hopefully, the enactment of the short-term funding bill will give Congress time to resolve differences and complete the remaining spending bill for fiscal year 2022. Since next year is a federal election year, that changes and complicates the dynamics on Capitol Hill.
