EPA to Reconsider Ozone National Ambient Air Quality Standard

On Friday, the Environmental Protection Agency in courts filings announced its intent to reconsider the National Ambient Air Quality Standard for ozone of 70 parts per billion over 8-hours that was reaffirmed in the Trump Administration in 2020. The EPA court filings were in response to a legal action brought by several states, environmental and health organizations suing the agency for its failure to establish a standard appropriate to protect public health.

During the 2020 review of the EPA ozone standard, the ATS advocated for a revised standard of 60 ppb/8-hours. The ATS will again urge EPA to establish an ozone standard that protects the American public from the well-documented adverse health effects of exposure to ozone.
