FDA Releases List of 6 Million Deemed Tobacco Products Under Review
This week, the Center for Tobacco products at FDA posted a list of over 6 million deemed new tobacco products received through the Premarket Tobacco Product Application (PMTA) pathway by September 9, 2020. All “new” tobacco products – which encompasses all e-cigarettes and vaping devices – are required to submit product applications for FDA review. The volume of products under FDA’s review indicates the significant challenge the agency faces in regulating tobacco products. FDA has indicated that it will prioritize new tobacco products that have the greatest public health impact, likely including the products most used by youth.
